Journalist from CNN Fails to Get the Joke, Rushes for a Fact-Check Instead

CNN's Desperate Attempt at Fact-Checking Fails Miserably
In a laughable display of journalistic desperation, CNN reporter Alayna Treene attempted to fact-check a joke made by Republican vice presidential candidate Sen. JD Vance during a rally in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Vance, known for his sharp wit and ability to skewer liberal hypocrisy, quipped that the Democratic National Convention was held in Chicago so that Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz could "accurately say that he visited a combat zone." The joke, of course, referred to Walz's dubious claims about his military service.
Treene, however, took Vance's joke at face value and proceeded to "fact-check" it, pointing out that the convention location was chosen over a year ago. Her tweet was met with widespread ridicule, including from Vance himself, who responded with a simple "lmao."
But Treene's misadventure didn't go unnoticed by others in the conservative movement. The Federalist co-founder Sean Davis chimed in, tweeting, "The journos are so dumb and broken they’re now fact-checking obvious jokes." Manhattan Institute senior fellow Christopher Rufo added, "They're fact-checking jokes now."
